Search
Results Display
The default search
results are displayed alphabetically by the artist's last name or group
name, with all of the in-stock titles listed first. You have the option
to change the search results display in several ways – alphabetically
by title, sorted by price (high to low / low to high), by most newly
arrived, or by format (LPs, 45s, 12").
Simple
Search
From the simple search box at
the top left side of every page you can search by artist, title or
record label; simply enter as many or as few search keywords as you
would like. Searching for "Elvis" will give results for Elvis
Presley as well as Elvis Costello - "Elvis Presley" will only
return titles by Elvis Presley - you can always focus your search results by
adding more words.
Detailed
Search
Detailed Search Input
Fields:
Our detailed search contains several input fields and several search
filters/limiters. You must provide an entry in at least one of the input
fields. The more fields you fill, the more focused your results will be.
By using multiple fields in the detailed search, you should be able to
find exactly the title you are looking for.
Keywords are any words that appear in an item
description - Artist, Title, Record Label, Label Number, Comments, or
Categories - whatever word or words will help our Search Engine best
identify the album(s) you are looking for. The Keyword search sorts
through our entire database to match your interests to our inventory.
Enter an artist's name here and you'll find not only the albums
recorded by the artist (as you would by entering the same name in the
"Artist/Group" field), but also all the titles containing
his/her name.
Artist/Group:
Enter the
name of the artist or the name of the group. Entering the first and last
name of an artist will give you an exact match of the artist. Remember,
entering both first and last name will focus your search results more
narrowly.
Title:
The title
field matches any keyword in that field. By typing “funny” you will
get results for all albums that contain the word “funny” in the
title. Typing “Funny Girl” will display only albums that have both
the words in the title.
Record Label:
Only
interested in the products of a single label? Enter that label's name
here. This field can also be used in combination with the artist or
title fields to narrow your search results.
Item Number:
If you know
the Records By Mail item number for a title, typing it into this field
will display that unique title. Remember, this number is unique to the
Records By Mail inventory.
Detailed
Search Filters:
These filters (used in combination with the input fields) will help you
to narrow your search so that you can find exactly what you are looking
for quickly.
- Format:
Limit
your search to only LPs, or 45s or 12" vinyl formats.
- Category:
Search
for an artist, title or label only within a certain category.
- How recently added?
Show only
items added within the last day, week, month or 6 months. The default
is set to list all items in our inventory.
- Sort by:
Display your search results sorted alphabetically by
artist, title, category or sorted by price. The default display is
alphabetical by artist/group name.
Browse
Our website site gives you the
ability to browse our categories in several ways. Click on any of the
categories listed on the "Browse
all Categories" page, and browse through all the artists
in that category - listed alphabetically by group or last name. Please
note that some artists could be listed in more than one category,
Cannonball Adderly, for example, is listed in both Jazz and Soul.
You can also browse our categories by newest arrivals, or by
higher-priced rare titles.
